Many of our animals, like Lady, come from very good homes, but due to unforeseen or unfortunate circumstances, they are surrendered to us for care and adoption. We give all of our arrivals a check-up, provide routine vaccinations and medications as needed, and, in order to control the unwanted pet population, spay or neuter the animal.
We often take in animals that have been given up on, some severely injured or ill, but through the skillful work of our volunteer veterinarians and staff, we frequently witness remarkable recoveries and a second chance at a good life. Some of our guests, like Landon, have special medical needs. Landon has the non-fatal feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) which means he heals from injuries or illness at a slower pace than uninfected cats, and all he requires is a special family to adopt him.
Our furry friends are very often strays, picked up by shelter staff, or brought in by concerned citizens. Sometimes they are very loving, like Milo, and find homes quickly, while others need more intensive veterinary care, or have to develop a level of trust for humans again. No matter what the circumstances, all of them deserve to be properly cared for, and all deserve a home.
